Traffic Attorney in Atlanta
Former-Judge Insight for Atlanta Traffic Ticket Defense
Paying a Georgia traffic ticket generally resolves the charge as a conviction. Depending on the offense, that decision can add points to your driving record, threaten your license, or contribute to an insurance rate increase. Many traffic offenses are misdemeanors under Georgia law, so it’s worth understanding your options before paying or entering a plea.
Founded in 2010 by a former judge, our firm brings a judicial perspective to traffic violation defense. We examine the citation, the circumstances of the stop, the available evidence, and the potential consequences before advising you on how to proceed.
Discuss your citation with our traffic ticket attorneys before your court date. Call (762) 722-0248 for a free consultation, with remote consultations available.
Judicial Perspective & Trial-Ready Preparation
Our founder’s experience as a former judge informs how we evaluate allegations, identify issues that may matter in court, and prepare for discussions with the prosecutor. We don’t treat every ticket as a routine payment problem. The charge, driving history, evidence, and potential licensing consequences all shape our strategy.
We have an excellent trial record and are prepared to litigate when a case calls for it. We’re also recognized for handling one of Georgia’s highest volumes of consumer and collection defense cases. That experience reinforces our organized approach to deadlines, documents, negotiations, and contested proceedings.
Speeding Tickets & Serious Traffic Charges
We handle ordinary moving violations as well as charges with serious criminal or licensing consequences. The appropriate response depends on the statute, the driver’s record, the available evidence, and any alleged aggravating circumstances.
Traffic matters may include:
- Speeding citations and alleged Super Speeder violations
- Reckless driving charges
- Driving on a suspended license
- Failure to obey traffic-control devices
- Improper passing and other moving violations
Georgia defines reckless driving as operating a vehicle with reckless disregard for the safety of people or property. The charge doesn’t require a fixed speed threshold. A conviction is a misdemeanor that can carry up to 12 months in jail, a fine of up to $1,000, and four points on a Georgia driving record.
How Georgia Traffic Points Can Affect Your License
The Georgia Department of Driver Services uses a points system to track certain moving-violation convictions. Drivers age 21 and older generally face suspension after accumulating 15 points within 24 months. A single four-point conviction can suspend the license of a driver under 21, while drivers under 18 can face suspension after receiving four points in 12 months.
Points generally remain on a driving record for two years. An eligible driver may reduce the assessed total by up to seven points once every five years by completing a state-approved defensive driving course. The course doesn’t erase the conviction, so point reduction and the ticket’s broader effects must be considered separately.
Georgia Super Speeder Fees & Deadlines
Georgia’s Super Speeder law applies after a conviction for driving at least 75 mph on a two-lane road or at least 85 mph on any road or highway. It adds a separate $200 state fee to the court-imposed consequences of the underlying speeding charge.
The Department of Driver Services bills the fee after receiving notice of the conviction, and the driver generally has 120 days from the notice date to pay it. Nonpayment can result in license suspension and a $50 reinstatement fee. However, the Super Speeder designation doesn’t add points beyond those assigned for the underlying speeding violation.
What Happens When You Contest an Atlanta Traffic Citation
The citation identifies the court responsible for the case. Depending on where the stop occurred and how the offense was charged, an Atlanta-area case may proceed in the Municipal Court of Atlanta, Fulton County State Court, or another court with jurisdiction.
Paying a citation resolves the charge differently from contesting it. A driver who wants to challenge the ticket can appear as directed and enter a not guilty plea. The case may then proceed to prosecutorial review, negotiation, motions, or trial. Our traffic lawyer can assess the evidence and explain which options fit the charge and driving history.
